Huron Street Project

Huron Street Project

Two walkers at dusk on Huron Street, Ann Arbor

As a gateway to our community, Huron Street serves an important role in downtown Ann Arbor. The street is full of residential, commercial, and civic frontage, and bridges the Kerrytown and Main Street neighborhoods.

Completed in the spring of 2020, the Huron Street project transformed this corridor, making changes that provide protection and greater comfort for pedestrians and increased safety for all users. The design also considered future adaptability of the street and sustainability.

Improvements included:

  • Large street trees, planter beds, and benches
  • Permeable pavers
  • Multi-level lighting (traditional streetlight level and pedestrian scale)
  • Bump outs at Fourth Avenue and Main Street
  • New sidewalks
  • Enhanced crosswalks
  • Dedicated left turn signal at Fifth Avenue
  • Full signalized intersection at Chapin Street
