Biking Around Downtown Ann Arbor
The greater Ann Arbor area has over 79 miles of bike lanes. Downtown Ann Arbor boasts the City’s first two-way protected facility, the William Street Bikeway. A second two-way protected bikeway on First Street was completed in the Fall of 2020. The bikeway network has been expanded to include Division Street and the Miller-Catherine area.
Bike Counter Public Dashboard
Counters were installed along bikeway streets in August and September of 2023. Visit the DDA’s “beta” page to view counts. Please note, counts include three of the four bikeway streets. Equipment on First Street is currently being adjusted and counts are not yet available.
Bike parking is plentiful downtown with over 1000 spaces, options include:
Bike Hoops: Conveniently located on the sidewalk throughout downtown.
Bike Houses: Due to space limitations, only those commuting to downtown and have a go!pass through their employer are eligible to rent space in one of two bike houses. (Not available for bike storage. ) Featuring 24-hour secure access, bike houses are located at the Ann Ashley and the Maynard parking structures. Spots can be reserved for $75 per year. For more information email parking@a2dda.org or call 734-994-6697.
Covered Bike Parking: Covered locations are available at all parking structures.
Seasonal On-Street Racks: Deployed every spring, these racks provide additional parking in the warmer months.
Business Bike Parking Pilot Permit Program: The City of Ann Arbor and the DDA have launched a pilot program to add more bicycle parking within the public right-of-way around Ann Arbor as framed in the city’s Vision Zero transportation plan. This program builds on the DDA’s existing seasonal on-street bike rack program that repurposes on-street parking spaces during warm-weather months. The pilot includes new materials and maintenance partnerships to support year-round use. Businesses, non-profits, property owners or other organizations across the city may request the placement of a bike rack near their location at no expense during the pilot. To submit a request, visit Stream, select Apply, then search for the “Business Bike Parking Pilot Permit Program.” Applicants will first need to register in Stream before filling out the form.
