William Street Bikeway

William Street Bikeway

People biking William Street Bikeway
Ann Arbor’s first two-way protected bikeway was installed on the north side of William Street from First Street to State Street in the Fall of 2019. The bikeway transitions to an advisory bike lane from First Street to Fourth Street. This protected facility was implemented through lane restriping, signal changes, and the installation of vertical delineators. In some locations, turn lanes were removed and travel lanes were reconfigured.

Beyond the installation of the bikeway, this project also included water main consolidations taken on by the City of Ann Arbor between Fifth Ave. and Division St, and between Main St. and Ashley St. as well as road resurfacing along the entire project corridor.

Grand Opening & Community Celebration October 27, 2019

In the Fall of 2021, the bikeway separation was enhanced, the vertical delineators were replaced with a concrete curb from Thompson Street to First Street and removable curbs from Thompson to State Street. The removable element being necessary to accommodate the Ann Arbor Art Fair which incorporates this section of William Street as part of the festivities annually in July.
